RIDE RATING

This ride is rated as moderate; however distances and elevation gains vary significantly.  Some days may be challenging, while others will be relatively easy.  Participants should be prepared to complete each day’s ride on their own without support.  Participants must have a bike that is suitable for self-contained touring and all the necessary equipment to carry their own belongings and any of the tools needed to make minor repairs.  Participants must also carry a cell phone (with battery back-up) with them at all times capable of making and receiving calls and text messages.

WEATHER

The temperatures for Oregon in September are generally moderate and pleasant.  In the central valley where we start, the average highs are in the upper 70s and average lows in the low 50s.  Along the coast average highs are in the mid-60s and average lows in the low 50s.  Chances of rain are relatively low, but weather can change, and participants should be prepared to ride in the rain and wind.

LODGING & MEALS

Lodging will vary, but generally will be above average for each location.  Breakfast will be available at the hotels, or at nearby cafes.  Lunch will be on your own each day as restaurants, cafes and grocery stores are available along each route (except day 6 when you’ll join the forest creatures to nibble on nuts and berries ;-).  Dinners with your fellow cyclist are encouraged in small groups, but some full group dinners will be an option when outdoor dining opportunities present themselves.

TRANSPORTATION

There are many options for arrival to Eugene, Oregon.  If you're flying into the area, the most convenient airport is Eugene (EUG), with a short taxi ride to our hotel.  You may also fly into Portland, Oregon (PDX) and then take the train, shuttle or rental car to Eugene.  If you’re driving, cars may be left at our starting/ending hotel for a reasonable daily fee.

COST & ADMINISTRATION

The cost of this tour is $1,950 per person, double occupancy.  Included in this tour are 12 nights lodging, all navigation aids that you’ll need (GPX files and cue sheets), breakfasts when provided by the hotel, and some dinners.
